British stocks closed flat on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.01 percent, or 0.91 points, to close at 7,382.65 points.
Provident Financial, a British sub-prime lender, soared 12.13 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Antofagasta and Rio Tinto increased by 2.31 percent and 2.13 percent, respectively.
WPP, a multinational advertising and public relations company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 10.92 percent.
Paddy Power Betfair, an international sports betting and gaming operator, dropped 2.71 percent. ITV, a British television network, fell 1.87 percent.
