British stocks decreased on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.07 percent, or 5.10 points, to close at 7,318.88 points.
Micro Focus International, a multinational software and information technology business, soared 3.17 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Pearson and Persimmon increased by 2.31 percent and 1.39 percent, respectively.
Provident Financial, a British sub-prime lender, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 5.78 percent. Shire, a global biopharmaceutical company, dropped 4.02 percent. St James's Place, a UK-based wealth management business, fell 1.35 percent.
