British stocks rose on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.92 percent, or 70.29 points, to close at 7,687.99 points.
Antofagasta, a copper mining group, soared 3.39 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Melrose industries and BHP billiton increased by 2.79 percent and 2.64 percent, respectively.
Severn Trent, a water company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 3.14 percent.
United utilities group, also a water company, dropped 2.17 percent. National grid, a British multinational electricity and gas utility company, fell 0.99 percent.
