Canada's main stock index ended almost flat Tuesday as positive earnings offsetted declines in BlackBerry Ltd and other tech shares.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index edged down 1.62 points, or 0.01 percent, to end the day at 15,256.35.
BlackBerry Ltd declined 4.5 percent to 11.41 Canadian dollars after Goldman Sachs resumed coverage of the company with a sell rating Monday.
Software maker Open Text Corp fell 4.8 percent to 41.55 Canadian dollars while the overall technology group dropped 1.6 percent.
The energy sector fell 0.4 percent as oil prices declined. Enbridge Inc lost 1.6 percent to 51.73 Canadian dollars and TransCanada Corp lost 1.1 percent to 63.44 Canadian dollars.
Pretium Resources Inc dipped 8.7 percent to 10.32 Canadian dollars a share, while the overall materials sector, which includes precious and base metals miners and fertilizer companies, edged own 0.1 percent.
The Canadian dollar recovered 0.09 cents to 78.96 U.S. cents, while oil prices inched up 6 cents to 49.45 U.S. dollars a barrel and gold prices slid 6.30 dollars to 1,258.40 U.S. dollars an ounce.
