Chinese Shares Close Higher Tuesday - Dec. 26
 

Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.78 percent to 3,306.12 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.15 percent higher at 11,021.83 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.17 percent to close at 1,758.82 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at around 364.5 billion yuan (55.7 billion U.S. dollars), down from 381.2 billion yuan the previous day.

Winners outnumbered losers 1,046 to 254 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,399 to 470 at Shenzhen.

The cement and transportation industries gained the most as the central leadership stressed construction and maintenance of rural roads. Indices for the two sectors rose 1.22 percent and 0.96 percent, respectively.

Sichuan Shuangma Cement surged 5.75 percent to close at 18.4 yuan per share and Shanghai Jin Jiang International Industrial Investment edged up 4.95 percent to close at 14.84 yuan.
