French shares closed almost flat on Monday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.01 percent, or 0.50 points, to close at 5,493.63 points.

Eighteen of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day. French multinational mass media conglomerate Vivendi soared 2.26 percent, becoming the biggest bluechip winner.

STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer, advanced 2.08 percent. Orange S.A., a French telecom company, rose by 1.58 percent.

French multinational aircraft engine, rocket engine, aerospace-component, defense, and security company Safran lost 2.71 percent, becoming the biggest loser among the blue chips.

European multinational aeronautical and military corporation Airbus Group dropped 2.14 percent. Michelin (CGDE), a French tire manufacturer, went down 1.58 percent.
