French shares closed almost flat on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 0.07 percent, or 3.79 points, to close at 5,510.50 points.

22 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day. French multinational retailer Carrefour soared 1.53 percent, becoming the biggest bluechip winner.

LafargeHolcim, French-Swiss multinational manufacturer of building materials, advanced 1.50 percent. French automotive supplier Valeo rose by 1.45 percent.

European IT services corporation Atos lost 1.98 percent, becoming the biggest loser among the blue chips.

Schneider Electric, a French multinational corporation that specializes in energy management and automation solutions, dropped 1.24 percent. Sanofi, a French multinational pharmaceutical company, went down 1.23 percent.
