French shares edged down on Monday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 0.52 percent, or 26.56 points, to close at 5,087.59 points.
A total of 6 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.
French supermarket company Carrefour advanced 0.78 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French food group Danone rose 0.47 percent. French automobile supplier Valeo gained 0.44 percent.
International financial group BNP Parisbas went down by 1.99 percent, the top loser of the blue chips.
French bank Societe Generale lost 1.78 percent. Another French financial giant Credit Agricole edged down 1.50 percent.
