French shares lost on Friday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 0.17 percent, or 8.80 points, to close at 5,104.33 points.

French retail giant Carrefour tumbled 2.16 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French multinational electric utility company Engie S.A. was down 1.17 percent. French tire manufacturer Michelin edged down 1.08 percent.

French multinational mass media conglomerate Vivendi rose 2.30 percent, the top gainer of the day. French concessions and construction company Vinci gained 1.02 percent. Oil and gas firm Technipfmc was up 0.93 percent.
