French shares edged up on Wednesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.08 percent, or 4.22 points, to close at 5,241.66 points.
A total of 18 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.
Steel giant ArcelorMittal advanced 1.57 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French multinational integrated oil and gas company Total rose 1.10 percent, and Building material manufacturer LafargeHolcim gained 1.02 percent.
French consulting giant Capgemini went down by 1.96 percent, the top loser of the blue chips.
Stmicroelectronics, French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer, edged down 1.87 percent and French automotive supplier Valeo lost 1.53 percent.
