French shares edged up on Tuesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.18 percent, or 9.66 points, to close at 5,503.29 points.

A total of 26 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

European multinational aeronautical corporation AIRBUS GROUP advanced 3.59 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French multinational aircraft engine, rocket engine, aerospace-component, defense, and security company SAFRAN gained 1.89 percent. French multinational advertising and public relations company PUBLICIS GROUPE rose 1.75 percent.

Paris-based banking company BNP PARIBAS edged down 2.67 percent, the top loser of the blue chips.

Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturing corporation ARCELORMITTAL went down by 1.91 percent, another French banking company CREDIT AGRICOLE lost 1.54 percent.
