French shares edged up on Friday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.27 percent, or 14 points, to close at 5,281.29 points.

A total of 27 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

Multinational group in beauty L'Oreal advanced 2.46 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French food services and facilities management company Sodexo rose 1.47 percent, and French water and waste group Veolia Environment gained 1.36 percent.

Steel giant ArcelorMittal went down by 1.50 percent, the top loser of the blue chips.French multinational mass media conglomerate Vivendi edged down 0.88 percent and Schneider electric, French multinational corporation specializing in energy management and automation solutions, lost 0.84 percent.
