French shares advanced on Tuesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.18 percent, or 11 points, to close at 5,514.29 points.

A total of 23 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

Global leader in oil and gas projects, technologies, systems and services, Technipfmc advanced 4.26 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French automobile producer Peugeot rose 2.16 percent. Global semiconductor company STMicroelectronics gained 1.98 percent.

French international financial giant BNP Parisbas went down by 1.63 percent, the top loser of the blue chips.International giant in the infrastructure Lafarge-Holcim edged down 1.33 percent. Multinational communication group Publicis lost 1.14 percent.
