French shares edged down on Wednesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 0.32 percent, or 16.47 points, to close at 5,115.39 points.

A total of 10 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

French energy management company Engie advanced 0.88 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French group in beauty sector Oreal rose 0.62 percent. French company in oil and gas projects Technipfmc gained 0.60 percent.

International digital group Publicis went down by 3.15 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French bank BNP Parisbas lost 1.46 percent. Another French consulting giant Capgemini edged down 1.17 percent.
