German shares lost on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 46.25 points, or 0.36 percent, to close at 12,871.39 points.

German personal-care company Beiersdorf lost the most among the blue chips, down by 2.17 percent, followed by airlines Lufthansa and chemical and consumer goods company Henkel, which lost 1.52 percent and 0.95 percent respectively.

German energy group RWE, Commerzbank and European mass media company ProSiebenSat.1 were the top three winners, rising by 1.75 perccent, 1.58 percent and 0.94 percent respectively.

Manufacturing and electronics company Siemens was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 308.71 million euros (372.45 million U.S. dollars).
