German shares lost on Friday, with the benchmark DAX index down 49.34 points, or 0.40 percent, to close at 12,162.70 points.

Multinational chemical firm Linde lost the most among the blue chips, down by 2.41 percent, followed by industrial giant Thyssenkrupp and tire specialist Continental, which lost 1.82 percent and 1.81 percent respectively.

German maker of sportswear and equipment Adidas, European mass media company ProSiebenSat.1 and multinational software corporation SAP were the top three winners, rising 5.12 percent, 1.70 percent and 1.12 percent respectively.

Adidas was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 413.81 million euros (485.35 million U.S. dollars).
