German shares closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 55.04 points, or 0.45 percent, to close at 12,174.30 points.
European mass media company ProSiebenSat.1 lost the most among the blue chips, down by 3.50 percent, followed by German multinational chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer and multinational building materials company HeidelbergCement, which lost 0.98 percent and 0.96 percent respectively.
Renal dialysis equipment supplier Fresenius Medical, marketplace organizer for shares and securities trading Deutsche Boerse group, and energy group RWE were the top three winners, rising 1.03 percent, 0.40 percent, and 0.27 percent respectively.
Manufacturing and electronics company Siemens was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 169.15 million euros (199.58 million U.S. dollars).
