German shares lost on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 138.05 points, or 1.12 percent, to close at 12,154.00 points.
German banking and financial services provider Commerzbank lost the most among the blue chips, down by 3.55 percent, followed by Deutsche Bank and German maker of sportswear and equipment Adidas, which lost 3.00 percent and 2.52 percent respectively.
Energy group E.ON, RWE and housing association Vonovia were the top three winners, rising 2.97 percent, 1.16 percent and 0.35 percent respectively.
Deutsche Bank was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 303.99 million euros (356.61 million U.S. dollars).
