German shares lost on Friday, with the benchmark DAX index down 218.74 points, or 1.68 percent, to close at 12,785.16 points.

All of the 30 blue chips lost today. Deutsche Bank lost the most, down by 6.29 percent, followed by automotive manufacturer Volkswagen and multinational chemical firm Linde, which lost 3.42 percent and 3.36 percent respectively.

Deutsche Bank was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 578.40 million euros (722.53 million U.S. dollars).
