Kenya's leading telecom Safaricom hit a new all-time high at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to help the bourse's key indices record positive gains.
The telecom clocked 0.25 U.S. dollars, a rise of 1 percent, on a volume of 8.7 million shares to account for 37 percent of the traded value.
The NSE 20 Share Index was up 23.98 points to stand at 4,052.54 while the All Share Index (NASI) picked up 1.16 points to stand at 168.69. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share Index added 25.56 points to stand at 4,482.63.
The manufacturing sector represented 24 percent of the day's traded value, with East Africa Breweries Ltd trading at a fairly stable price of 2.6 dollars.
The banking sector transacted shares that accounted for 13 percent of the day's traded value, with Diamond Trust Bank closing at 3.3 percent higher of 1.9 dollars.
The energy sector was the fourth best traded category with KenGen and Kenya Power moving 2 million and 2.4 million shares respectively to account for 8 percent of the accounting of the day's traded value.
Turnover rose marginally to 6 million dollars on a volume of 20 million shares from 5.4 million dollars on 19 million shares posted Wednesday.
