Tokyo stocks advanced on Monday morning as investors sought out issues with a high exposure to oversees markets, especially exporters, and piled into stocks with high dividend yields ahead of the end of the FY first half.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 118.48 points, or 0.58 percent, from Friday to 20,414.93.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.08 points, or 0.55 percent, at 1,673.69.
Rubber product, information and communication, and machinery issues, comprised those that advanced the most by the morning break.
