Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index extending its winning streak for a fifth day, marking a record for 2017, on Wall Street's solid lead overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 62.15 points, or 0.30 percent, from Thursday to finish the day at 20,690.71, booking its highest close since Aug. 11, 2015.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.67 points, or 0.28 percent, to close at 1,687.16.
The turnover on the final trading day of the week came to 2,274.3 billion yen (20.15 billion U.S. dollars).
