Spanish Stocks Drop 138 Points Wednesday-Aug 9

Spanish Ibex-35 stock exchange suffered losses on Wednesday.

Just 25 hours after the Ibex-35 recovered the 10,700 point mark for the first time since the end of June, it slipped back 138 points to the close of 10,596.00 points.

The morning session was characterized by a continued slide in values from Wednesday's opening 10,734.70 down to the day's lowest level of 10,525.10 points at 2:30 p.m. local time.

The last three hours of the session saw a timid recovery that was however, not enough to see the Ibex-35 close above the 10,600 mark and the closing mark of 10,596 points equated to a 1.29 percent fall in share values over the day.

Only three companies; Acerinox (0.71 percent) Inmobilaria Colonial (0.16 percent) and Cellnext Telecom (0.05 percent) showed gains on the day, with Inmobilaria Colonial making a timid recovery following Tuesday's loss of 0.95 percent.

Every other company trading on the Ibex-35 made a loss with the banks, Bankia (2.65 percent), BBVA (2.50 percent) and Banco Santander (2.07) bearing some of the heaviest losses of the day.

Meanwhile the Spanish Risk Premium closed on 98.8 points and interest on the 10-year bond fell slightly to 1.41 percent.
