Tokyo stocks advanced Thursday morning. tracking strong gains on Wall Street overnight, with a comparatively soft yen also adding broad support to the market and buoying exporter-linked issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 108.44 points, or 0.54 percent, from Wednesday to 20,238.85.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 10.10 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,624.47.
Iron and steel, bank and securities-linked stocks comprised issues that gained the most by the morning break.
