Tokyo stocks made gains Tuesday morning as investor appetite returned following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight and on eased concerns about potential conflict between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 252.03 points, or 1.29 percent, from Monday to 19,789.13.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 20.07 points, or 1.26 percent, to 1,619.13.
Bank, insurance and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
