Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning as Wall Street's rise overnight set a positive tone in early trade, although some investors hit the sidelines ahead of U.S. jobs data set to be released later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 38.57 points, or 0.20 percent, from Thursday to 19,684.81.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.01 points, or 0.06 percent, to 1,618.42.
Air transportation, rubber product and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
