Tokyo stocks gained ground Wednesday morning as a weak yen against the U.S. dollar drew buying of exporter issues, while robust domestic corporate earnings reports undermined a buoyant market mood.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 93.42 points, or 0.47 percent, from Tuesday to 20,048.62. The broader
Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.05 points, or 0.25 percent, to 1,621.12.
Nonferrous metal, securities and machinery-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most by the morning break.
