Tokyo Stocks Close Higher On Wall Street's Lead As Trade War Concerns Abate

Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as a four-day losing streak was brought to an end by investors buying back shares oversold led by Wall Street's overnight rally on receding concerns about about a trade war related to possible tariffs on U.S. steel and aluminum imports.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 375.67 points, or 1.79 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,417.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 21.51 points, or 1.27 percent, higher to finish at 1,716.30.

Oil and coal product, precision instrument and chemical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
