Tokyo Stocks Close Higher On Wall Street's Solid Overnight Lead
 

Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index finishing at more than a two-year high as Wall Street's overnight gains bolstered investor sentiment here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 12.59 points, or 0.06 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 20,626.66, marking its highest close since Aug. 11, 2015.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.10 point, or 0.01 percent, to finish at 1,684.56.

Iron and steel, food and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play, and falling issues beat rising ones by 1,096 to 820 on the First Section.

The turnover on the third trading day of the week totaled 2,394.1 billion yen (21.25 billion U.S. dollars).
