Tokyo Stocks Close Lower as Investors Secure Gains After U.S. Tech Shares' Slump-June 28
 

Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as a drop in tech shares on Wall Street overnight saw investors here opt to lock in gains following the market's recent winning streak.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 94.68 points, or 0.47 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 20,130.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 4.65 points, or 0.29 percent, to finish at 1,614.37.

Electric appliance, rubber product and food-linked stocks comprised those that declined the most by the close of play, and declining issues outpaced advancing ones by 1,383 to 503 on the First Section.

Trading volume on the main section on Wednesday came to 1,920.07 million shares, rising from Tuesday's volume of 1,573.97 million shares.

The turnover on the third trading day of the week totaled 2,429.3 billion yen (21.66 billion U.S. dollars).
