Tokyo stocks rose marginally Friday morning, as investor sentiment was bolstered by the Dow Jones Industrial Average's record close overnight.
The launch, however, of a missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over Japan in the early morning before markets opened here had investors in a circumspect mood, which capped the market's upside in the morning.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 19.40 points, or 0.10 percent, from Thursday to 19,826.84.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, inched 1.36 points, or 0.08 percent higher, to 1,633.49.
Mining, insurance, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
