Tokyo stocks opened higher on Wednesday with buying supported by a solid showing on Wall Street overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 48.42 points, or 0.23 percent, from Tuesday to 21,384.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 1.84 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,725.21.
Oil and coal, rubber product and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
