Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday with investors sentiment bolstered by the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a fresh record-high for the fifth straight day, while solid domestic earnings underpinned the market.
As of 9:15 a.m, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 95.74 points, or 0.48 percent, from Tuesday to 20,081.53.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.33 points, or 0.45 percent, to 1,635.83.
Iron and steel, electric appliance and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
