Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday on Wall Street's solid overnight lead with a comparatively weak yen also contributing to a positive market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 81.26 points, or 0.38 percent, from Wednesday to 21,444.31.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.21 points, or 0.30 percent, to 1,729.85.
Securities, bank and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprise those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
