Tokyo stocks opened higher on Thursday, with the market mood remaining upbeat following another solid lead from Wall Street overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 69.21 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday to 20,950.48.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.55 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,701.36.
Marine transportation, securities and service-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
