Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher on Tuesday, as the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar buoyed the market mood and sent export-oriented issues higher.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 45.10 points, or 0.23 percent, from Monday to 20,020.77.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 2.62 points, or 0.16 percent higher, to 1,624.19.
Bank, insurance and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in early trade.
