Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower on Tuesday on geopolitical concerns related to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 22.83 points, or 0.11 percent, from Friday to 20,667.88.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 2.88 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,684.28.
Insurance, mining, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the early minutes of trade.
Japanese markets were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
