Tokyo stocks rose slightly Tuesday morning as the market mood was buoyed by the Dow Jones Industrial Average's record close overnight, with solid April-June earnings results also underpinning the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 34.23 points, or 0.17 percent, from Monday to 19,959.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 6.47 points, or 0.40 percent, to 1,625.08.

Air transportation, land transportation and insurance-related stocks comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
